Developer Closes Main Road To Giles Co. Community

PULASKI, Tenn. - A developer in Southern Middle Tennessee has made quite a few area residents angry.

On Monday, developers temporarily closed Milky Way Road.

Residents said it is only major route they have. The road closure forces them to go miles out of their way to get to work or school.

Milky Way Farms near Pulaski in Giles County will be converted into a private community. The creator of the Milky Way candy bar once owned the property.

Misty Jones runs an at-home daycare operation. She said her clients depend on easy access to drop off their children. She said if it becomes too difficult, parents will find another place for childcare.

"It will take them about 45 minutes to come to my house, drop off their kids and go back, just to get back to the main road," Jones said.

Another resident said he and his neighbors are also concerned about safety.

Ron Cook, who works for sales for Milky Way Farms, said families asked him to leave a small access road open next to the closed road during construction. He said that would lengthen the construction time.

"One way is you do half at a time," Cook said, "and then stop traffic and then start traffic while you're doing that, but we understand that's probably a six-week ordeal instead of nine or 10 days."
